Latest Marketing Trends Survey
The latest Marketing Trends Survey conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Marketing shows that marketing spend continues to rise despite the economic slowdown. It reveals that marketing spend accounts for an average of 7.7% of an organisation’s turnover, up from 6.6% in September 2007. The figures are even more interesting for small businesses with spend being even higher at 8.6% for businesses with less than £1 million turnover and 8.8% for businesses with £1 million to £10 million turnover.
Online Advertising reaches £2.8 billion which could overtake TV by 2009
Online advertising spend in the UK reached a high of £2.8 billion in 2007, putting it at the third highest advertising spend behind TV and press display advertising. If it continues to grow at the same rate next year and press ads stay the same or decline then online would move into second place. If this continued again it is possible that it will overtake TV to become the UK’s biggest advertising medium in 2009. This would be an incredible achievement as it is less than 15 years old.
The UK will play host to the first World Social Marketing Conference and Exhibition on 29th and 30th September in Brighton. The conference will provide a forum for shared learning across the social marketing industry, from practitioners to academics and public sector to private sector looking at how it can improve the impact of commercial sector techniques and approaches.
